Smaller and plainer than Victorian houses, bungalows combined affordability with the aesthetic sensibilities of the Arts and Crafts movement. They were also quite versatile, particularly with regard to their bedrooms. Open-air sleeping porches and space-saving "built-ins" allowed bungalow owners to convert unfinished or underutilized areas of the house into sleeping quarters.
