About the Author Desire Smith is a major collector, lecturer, and consultant in vintage fashions. She received B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Beaver College and studied film and photography at Philadelphia College of Performing Arts and Moore College of Art. She is an active student of fashion and a member of the Costume Society of America. A retired high school English teacher, Desire has spent over twenty-five years selecting more than an thousand hats, garments, and accessories from the eighteenth century through the 1960s for her personal collection. She lives with her husband, grown children, and a menagerie of pets outside Philadelphia. Her earlier books include Hats (1996), Vintage Style (1997), Fashionable Clothing from the Sears Catalogs: Early 1970s (1998), and Fashionable Clothing from the Sears Catalogs: Early 1950s (1998).
