He proceeded to deploy his probing curiosity amid the energy and turmoil of big-city streets, reinvigorating a rich photographic tradition that had been dormant for nearly a generation.

Since 1977 his work has been the subject of numerous one-man exhibitions. His photographs are in the collections of major institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
