Editorial Reviews About the Author Robert Bersson is a Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA. At JMU, he has taught art appreciation, the art history survey, seminar in aesthetics, methods of art criticism, art since 1945, abstract expressionism, and postmodernism. A recipient of the JMU Distinguished Teaching Award and a two-time Faculty Member in Residence in Florence, Italy, he lives with his wife Dolores Shoup in rural Bridgewater, VA.
Professor Bersson is active as an exhibiting artist, working in drawing, painting, collage, and mixed media. Collaborating with his wife, a long-time kindergarten teacher, and illustrator, Scott Trobaugh, he is the creator of the children’s book, Stripes and Stars (Legacy Group Productions, 2004), based on his American flag artworks. Active in the Harrisonburg community, Mr. Bersson has been a leader in downtown revitalization, architectural preservation/restoration, environmental reclamation (the Blacks Run stream restoration project), and aesthetic/good design improvements.
